There are not many times I have three paragraphs worth of spoilers, but over at TV Blend there is an article that shows off a lot of what is going to happen in the upcoming season. If you don’t want to know about Season 2, then STOP READING. If you want to know what is to come here is the info straight from TVBlend
” The most interesting revelation is that the second sesaon will begin eight months after the end of the first, an even longer break that’s been happening in real time. Tami, who learned she was pregnant at the end of the last season, gives birth in the first episode, to a girl she and Eric name Gracie. Eric, who accepted a coaching job in Austin at the end of last season, is still living separately from his wife. Despite the distance between the two characters, the creators promise there will be plenty of moments between Eric and Tami; Kyle Chandler, who plays Eric, touchingly described the importance of the close bond between the characters: “You don’t have to worry about the scene where coach breaks up with Tami and goes and sleeps with someone. It’s not only a real relationship, the way real people are, I think, it’s also a good safety factor for us, [to know the characters won’t] get in these torrid affairs.”
All the other characters will be up to plenty as well, with a few new characters scheduled to come in as well. Saracen becomes involved with a Guatemalan woman named Carlotta, who arrives as a caretaker for his grandmother; “it’s not necessarily a physical thing” says executive producer Jason Katims, but a connection will emerge. We will also meet Landry’s father for the first time, a former Dillon Panther football player and a current cop. Landry, a main character who doesn’t play football, will try out for the team; Jesse Plemons, who plays the character, attributes it to Landry’s attempt to impress his father. And a character from last season will make an unwelcome return– the man who attempted to rape Tyra will come back to town, and it’s no coincidence. “It’s eight months later, and Tyra feels like this guy is following her, and he is,” says Adrianne Palicki, who plays Tyra. “The poor girl, she finally gets out of her rut of feeling like the town floozy, and she’s getting her bearings and she’s things going on and she’s got these great friends and then she’s thrown back into that world.”
It’s hard to guess what the show’s creators were trying to do when they revealed so many details about their upcoming seasons, but as someone who has never watched the show, all those details are intriguing me, at least. Without major Emmy nominations to bolster it, ‘Friday Night Lights’ may continue with the threat of cancellation hovering over it, unless more people like me wind up dying to know whether or not Landry makes the team.”
I cannot say how surprised I am to write this post, I thought for sure this morning would be one where I posted that Friday Night Lights would have some sort of nominations whether it was for Actors in a Drama series or even Outstanding Drama. Critics have been raving about this show since it begun but unfortunately fans have not grasped onto the show and it seems as though Friday Night Lights didn’t get enough nods to make it on the list. I am going to just take a wild guess that there are going to be many fans of the show upset about these nominations.
Rosie Coming to Friday Night Lights
Filed Under News | 3 Comments
According to TVGuide.com, the people over at Friday Night Lights are doing everything they can to bring over the ex-View host to come over to Friday Night Lights. This would be a very interesting aquisition, although I am not sure where she would fit in. But as they always say any publicity is good publicity and so either way if Rosie comes that will just bring more light onto a struggling show. Here is what TVGuide.com had to say on the news:
“FNL execs are wooing the ex-View lightning rod to appear in an episode this fall. “Rosie’s a big fan of Friday Night Lights, as we know from The View, and we heard she was interested in being on the show,” executive producer Jason Katims tells me. “Usually we don’t do any stunt casting, but we have a character coming up — six or seven episodes into the new season mdash; of a female soccer coach who is really angry about all of the school’s resources going to football. It’s a really funny character and I think she’d be perfect for it.
“There’s a scene where she comes in to see Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and slams a dead soccer ball on his desk and basically says, ‘You’re the guy who gets everything!’” Katims continues. “It’s a really fun scene, and it’s the one time I’m thinking of stunt casting.”
Katims, who will formally approach O’Donnell in the coming weeks, says he’s willing to tailor the part to fit her wants/needs. “It would be one episode, but the way we write things, we stay very open to abrupt things,” he says. “So if she comes out, loves doing it, and wants to do more, she could do it. But initially, it would be just one scene, and that would be the way to get her. Knowing that she could come [out to the show’s Austin, Texas, set], hang out, have a scene with Kyle Chandler and then be done could be very appealing to her.” (No comment yet from O’Donnell’s rep, Cindi Berger.)”
The USA Today had a really interesting article this morning on Friday Night Lights, discussing the inherent disappointment it has been thus far. The article itself is actually a great read and it has a lot of insight to why the game has not been as successful as critics have raved about it. Here is a snippet of the article:
“The silver lining behind weak ratings is that NBC doesn’t think viewers have rejected Lights. Many may just not have sampled it, thinking it was only about teens and sports.
“Women would like it as much, if not more, than men,” executive producer Jason Katims says.
How much time and backing it gets from NBC is another wild card, with Ben Silverman having replaced Lights’ champion Kevin Reilly as program chief after the critically praised show was renewed. Silverman was not available for comment, but other NBC executives say he backs the show.”

TV Week Says Friday Night Lights Best Show
Filed Under News | Leave a Comment
In a very interesting survey that TV Week puts together a few times a year, they ask critics to name the top ten best and worst shows currently on Television. Well with both online and print mediums being asked, Friday Night Lights was among the top ten best shows on Television according to the survey, and in fact was #3. That is a huge honor for a show that could use as much positive praise as possible.
Top Ten Best Shows on TV (according to TVWeek)
1. The Sopranos (HBO)
2. Lost (ABC)
3. Friday Night Lights (NBC)
4. The Office (NBC)
5. Ugly Betty (ABC)
6. Heroes (NBC)
7. 30 Rock (NBC)
8. The Shield (FX)
9. Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)
10. The Tudors (Showtime)
Right off the heels of the announcement that NBC will not be running re-runs of the first season of Friday Night Lights, the announcement of the first season DVD has been announced for an August 28th release.
According to BuddyTV:
“The DVD is made up of five discs, throughout which all 22 episodes of the first season have been spread. Moreover, aside from hosting the episodes, each disc will also contain a set of the show’s deleted scenes.
Other features include English DD5. 1 Surround Sound, English SDH subtitles and “Behind the Lights: Creating The First Season of Friday Night Lights.” All episodes can be viewed through 1.78:1 Anamorphic Widescreen.”
Well I guess instead of watching it online, or re-runs, we will have to go buy the DVD!
According to BuddyTv.com “NBC has taken Friday Night Lights reruns off its summer television schedule. When the network decided to renew the critically-acclaimed drama series in May, it announced that the show’s entire first season would be re-aired over the summer in order to help increase viewership for the fall premiere of season two.”
This is an interesting development because this is a show that has been receiving a ton of praise from critics (and of course us here at FNLBlog.com), but not necessarily well received by the network ratings. The implications of this decision could be interesting to say the least.
I was actually very surprised to learn that even after the somewhat underwhelming acceptance of Friday Night Lights in its opening season, however the show in my mind always showed great promise and I always enjoyed it. So for all of us who wanted to hear some good news for the show, here you go. Friday Night Lights has made the cut, which means they are in the Top Ten Drama Series for the Emmy’s! Lets go Friday Night Lights!
